WiMAX we can say it’s coming to an end, let’s see what will happen to LTE in the next few years my opinion is that we will have next generation cellphone service but faster, Mi-Fi, Wi-Fi all over… this way we will be connected 24×7. Other options well I don’t think we have to pursue perfection like 4G technologies like WiMAX. Here the latest news from Engadget:

It’s still far, far too early to call WiMAX a dead technology, but with the second major infrastructure supplier moving away from it in as many months, that’s a pretty damning sign, isn’t it? After Alcatel Lucent’s announcement that it would be scaling back WiMAX investment last month, Cisco has now pulled the plug on its own efforts, citing a desire to stay as “radio-agnostic” as possible in the 4G race. That makes sense for a company that hasn’t traditionally played in the wireless game the same way stalwarts like Ericsson and Nokia Siemens have, but the move still lies in stark contrast to Cisco’s 2007 acquisition of Navini Networks that brought a host of WiMAX-focused equipment into the fold. Of course, CDMA has managed just fine in the shadow of GSM’s global domination over the past decade, so these early warning signs could amount a fat load of nothing by the time we’ve reached a 4G steady state.

I was moved by TMCNET article about Truphone, and decided to install it in my E61 but when activating the application, because I am in Dominican Republic, SMS for activation didn’t work. So I emailed Truphone about this issue… they fixed this, in a couple of weeks! Just great also I have free calls to 40 different countries until… I have been testing it between office, home it works without a glitch. A highly recommended application, works much better than Gizmo.

After quite a while I have not posted anything… why? The design has some drawbacks, the theme I was using for my wordpress blog just was not practical. So I decided to change it to a more practical one but with some media links like twitter, facebook, flickr, etc.

Peer to peer (or P2P) networks uses diverse connectivity between participants in a network and the cumulative bandwidth of network participants rather than conventional centralized resources where a relatively low number of servers provide the core value to a service or application. Such networks are useful for many purposes like sharing files!!!

One of my favorite P2P clients is Bitcomet, because it’s powerful, fast, very easy-to-use, and completely FREE. It contains many advanced features for BitTorrent download and extends its leading BitTorrent technology to HTTP/FTP to accelerate downloading up to 5 – 10 times faster.

So the easiest way to configure Bitcomet with your Onebox from Onemax, is as follows:

Login to your Onebox, make sure you are properly connected and launch the web browser. Type 192.168.1.1 as the URL. A password screen displays the default password is 1234 displays non-readable characters. Following screens displays to change your password click ignore, then click Go to Advanced setup

Once there you see the status screen, use this screen to look at status of the device, system resources, interfaces, etc.

Click Network in the upper left side of the screen. And finally NAT

Click Port Forwarding tab, make sure Default Server in Default Server Setup is 0.0.0.0 and in Port Forwarding let’s modify rule #1.

Rule setup:

Active check
Service Name: Torrent
Start Port: 6881
End Port: 6999
Server IP address: 192.168.1.33

This IP address is the default from the DHCP pool, make sure this is your computer’s IP address in case you have more than one computer connected to the Onebox.

Then download and install Bitcomet, and open Options. Go to Connection, and modify your listen port to let’s say 6999 click OK

Verify the status bar says WAN:190.52.226.75 this IP must be the IP address of the WAN interface of your Onebox.

Yahoo hoping Google’s superior technology will make shareholders forget Microsoft’s bid

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Yahoo Inc. became Microsoft Corp.’s takeover prey largely because Google Inc. established such a commanding lead in the Internet’s lucrative search advertising market.

But after eluding Microsoft’s grasp, Yahoo is now turning to Google to help squelch a rebellion among its shareholders who believe it should have accepted Microsoft’s $47.5 billion buyout offer while it was still available last month.

Yahoo announced its decision to let Google handle some of its advertising sales late Thursday, just a few hours after revealing it unsuccessfully tried to persuade Microsoft to renew its previous offer of $33 per share. Nortel focalizará sus desarrollos en la tecnología móvil de próxima generación LTE (Long Term Evolution), dejando su presencia en WiMAX en manos de los productos de la israelí Alvarion.

Según Gerry Collins, director de wireless de Nortel para EMEA, “mientras que el desarrollo de redes LTE se está acelerando, WiMAX no está evolucionando tan deprisa como se esperaba”. Por ello, el fabricante invertirá la mayor parte de su presupuesto de I+D en LTE, con el fin de estar preparados para satisfacer la demanda de los operadores móviles.

Este cambio estratégico no supondrá el abandono de WiMAX por parte de Nortel, no al menos completamente. De acuerdo con un comunicado de la compañía, seguirá ofreciendo capacidades de banda ancha móvil basada en esta tecnología, principalmente en aquellas zonas del mundo donde la banda ancha es un recurso escaso. Y para ello contará con la ayuda de Alvarion.

Los dos fabricantes integrarán la tecnología de red de acceso de radio de Alvarion con los productos de backhaul y redes core de Nortel, que, además, revenderá productos WiMAX de la firma israelí. Como Nortel dejará de producir soluciones WiMAX, sus actuales clientes comenzarán a trabajar con estaciones base de Alvarion.

Los expertos y analistas han recibido la decisión de Nortel como un movimiento que podría ir en detrimento de las oportunidades de mercado de WiMAX, aunque reconocen la necesidad de Nortel de centrarse en LTE para explotar al máxima sus posibilidades de negocio.

Esto representa aun más retrasos para Wind Telecom quien elige a Nortel para desplegar la red WiMAX en República Dominicana el año pasado. Tras la decisión de dejar su presencia en WiMAX en manos de Alvarion, nos dice que el pasar un proyecto de tal magnitud de manos, es tiempo, esfuerzo y por lo tanto dinero.

The new iphone packs 3G (hsdpa), GPS and Maps, Apple push service, MS Exchange and Push Email support. The 8GB at $199 and $299 for the 16GB model this is just great and I’m excited because there is a few questions left:

“What happens when the world’s most talked about phone get a huge price cut by half? What happens when the world’s most talked about phone acquires Microsoft ActiveSync and Exchange and push email? What happens when it acquires GPS and maps as well? All for the price of an entry-level phone from Nokia or Samsung.” read on here

This becomes the new iPhone in the cheapest smart phone in the market. How this will affect the mobile phone industry?

I guess I will change my Nokia E61 soon, the new iPhone will be available in July 11th countries like USA, Mexico, France, Germany… and the rest of these are slated to get the phone this year: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, etc.

Nokia has finally officially announced the N810 Internet Tablet WiMAX Edition, after endless rumors and several leaks. Announced at CTIA 2008, the new version of the N810 adds support for Sprint’s soon to launch XOHM WiMAX service. Here the Nokia commercial for the release of the Nokia N810 WIMAX edition:

Nokia has chosen CTIA 2008 as the venue to formally announce the latest Internet Tablet, the N810 WiMAX Edition. This version of the N810 has been blessed with the addition of support for Sprint’s upcoming Xohm WiMAX network, along with a cosmetic change to black brushed metal with red and white keyboard backlights.

The Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition is powered by Maemo, a user interface that runs on top of Linux. Hardware features include a 4.13″ 800×480 pixel resolution touchscreen display and stereo speakers. A VGA resolution, front facing webcam is built-in for video calling over Gizmo’s VOIP, this wonderful gadget also features a built-in GPS receiver and 2GB of internal flash storage, paired with a miniSD card slot for additional storage.
